20 principals are formally appointed to new posts

Seattle Public Schools Superintendent Raj Manhas has formally filled 20 principal positions for the 2004-05 school year.

The appointments, some of which already had been announced, are:

Ballard High School: Phil Brockman, who has been principal of West Seattle High.

Nathan Hale High School: Lisa Hechtman, now an assistant principal at Skyline High School in the Issaquah School District.

Ingraham High School: Martin Floe, formerly Ingraham's assistant principal.

Roosevelt High School: Chuck Chinn, who recently came out of retirement to serve as interim principal at Ballard High.

Chief Sealth High School: John Boyd, now principal of the Secondary Bilingual Orientation Center for immigrants.

West Seattle High School: Susan Dersé, now Garfield High principal.

Madrona K-8 School: Kaaren Andrews, now principal at Blaine K-8.

Summit K-12 School: Ryan Stevens, now a Cleveland High assistant principal.

Blaine K-8 School: Thalia Nawi, previously a junior-high and elementary assistant principal in the Kent School District.

Whitman Middle School: Robert Kogane, now the Seattle district's leadership-development coordinator.

Alternative School #1 at Pinehurst: Ernest Seevers, now a teacher and coach at Mercer Middle School.

Kimball Elementary: Evie Livingston, now assistant principal at Meany Middle School.

Laurelhurst Elementary: Kathy Jolly, the district's science lead teacher and a member of the building-leadership team at Beacon Hill Elementary.

Lawton Elementary: Ed Noh, now interim assistant principal at Madison Middle School.

John Muir Elementary: Susan Kilbane, who has been an assistant principal in Chicago.

Wedgwood Elementary: Laura Tollefson, now a principal intern at Enatai Elementary in Bellevue.

Four interim principals — Brian Vance at The Center School, Ann Gray at Highland Park Elementary, Winifred Todd at Thurgood Marshall Elementary and Norma Zavala at Bailey Gatzert Elementary — were named permanent principals at those schools.

Garfield High School, Nova and the Secondary Bilingual Orientation Center still have principal positions open.
