Making a point with fashionable flats
Personally, I'm not a fan of things that are flat — flat hair, flat butt, flat Diet Coke — but I'll grudgingly make an exception, because flat shoes are a new way to make a fashion statement this season.
But flat doesn't have to equal boring. This fall's flats are flirty and feminine — think ballerina flats, little bows and Mary Janes. (If it feels too foreign to be completely flat-footed, go for the tiny kitten heel.)
"Women are really looking for something different," said Sarah Sclarandis, a footwear designer for Banana Republic.
"We're seeing the round toes, like the ballerina flat, or the pointy flat. It's about having variety."
And if you've been tottering around in stilettos all year, don't think going flat will give your poor feet a break — super-pointed toes are still in style.
