Hungry Man dinners recalled over mislabeling
Eggs inadvertently included as an ingredient in certain packages of Hungry Man brand dinners, but not listed on the label, have led to a product recall by the manufacturer, Pinnacle Foods of Fayetteville, Ark.
The recalled packages were produced July 1 and distributed in Washington, Oregon, California, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The manufacturer said the product was sold locally in Auburn only.
The product has been removed from store freezers.
Eggs can cause a severe allergic reaction in sensitive individuals. The product was recalled after a consumer alerted Pinnacle Foods to a mix-up in the packaged dinners, said a USDA statement. The company said a chicken-breast meal was inadvertently packed in some cartons labeled "Hungry Man classic fried chicken white & dark chicken pieces with mashed potatoes, corn & apple-cranberry crumb dessert."
The brownie in the chicken-breast meal contains egg, which is not included in the ingredients list on the label, a Pinnacle spokeswoman said. The UPC code is 5100006514.
The packaged meal can be returned to the store where purchased.
Anyone who does not have an egg allergy can safely eat the meal, the company spokeswoman said.
