'Voyage' brings India.Arie back to Pier 62/63
India.Arie is back at the Pier, bringing the soulful sounds of her Grammy Award-winning album "Voyage to India" to Pier 62/63 in Seattle.
Tonight, it's likely she'll cover herself in her mother's handmade clothes and strum her acoustic guitar as she sings hits "Video," "Little Things," "A Good Man" and "Brown Skin," as she did last year at the pier.
India.Arie's career has gotten better and stronger since she went on tour with Sade in 2001, making a stop at Seattle's KeyArena. In 2002, her album "Acoustic Soul" was nominated for seven Grammys and was awarded none, with many people calling it a snub by the academy. This year, her second and latest album, "Voyage to India," won best R&B album of the year and a song from the album, "Little Things," won best urban/alternative performance.
Since her concert here in August, India.Arie has appeared as Nina Simone singing "Come Ye" on the TV show "American Dreams," she won best female R & B artist at the BET Awards, and was named outstanding female artist by the NAACP. She was on tour in October and November and started her current tour July 18 in Saratoga, Calif. She'll be in Washington for one day before heading to the Detroit Music Festival.
Tickets for tonight's concert are still on sale.
