Vancouver wrestler wins national championship

FARGO, N.D. — Kyle Bounds of Vancouver's Columbia River High School captured the 145-pound Greco-Roman title at the USA Wrestling Cadet Championships at the FargoDome this week.

Bounds, who finished second in this tournament a year ago, beat Illinois' Brett Ambrosino 10-1 in Monday's 145-pound final.

Bounds placed second a year ago in this tournament, which attracts the United States' top 15- and 16-year-old wrestlers.

Two Washingtonians recorded runner-up finishes: Levi Jones (Lakeside HS/Nine Mile Falls) at 98 pounds and Brandon Sitch (Kelso) at 130 pounds.

• Seven members of the Everett Expressions team have qualified for the Artistic Roller Skating National Championships in Lincoln, Neb. that began yesterday and run through Aug. 5: Christine Beckett, 33, Snohomish; Kylee Berger, 13, Shoreline; Adrienne Erickson, 18, Everett; Trace Hansen, 31, Mukilteo; Alex Mitchell, 12, Everett; Jackie Simmons, 13, Lynnwood; and Jessica Williams, 14, Lake Stevens.

Michael Christianson, who has coached the boys and girls teams at Tacoma's Mount Tahoma High School the past seven seasons, has been named men's soccer coach at Pierce College.
