Actor Scott Hamilton Bairstow pleads not guilty to child rape charges

EVERETT — Actor Scott Hamilton Bairstow pleaded not guilty to child rape charges today in Snohomish County Superior Court.

The 33-year-old former Mukilteo resident — best known for roles in television’s “Party of Five” and the motion pictures “The Postman,” and “White Fang II: Myth of the White Wolf” — was charged with second-degree child rape in May with allegedly having sex with a 12-year-old girl sometime between January and October 1998, while living in Mukilteo with his wife and son. The sexual relationship continued until the summer of 2001, according to charging papers.

A trial date was set for Aug. 15, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 25.

Charging documents say Bairstow repeatedly told the girl that if she told anyone about their relationship, he would lose his family. He also made the comments during a police-taped telephone conversation, documents allege.

Bairstow’s attorney, Mitchell W. Egers of Los Angeles, said following today’s court proceedings that the taped conversation has been taken out of context.
