Here's a look at events involving Mike Price's coaching tenure at Alabama:
Dec. 10, 2002 Three days after Washington State beats UCLA to clinch a berth in the Rose Bowl, Price is asked about rumors connecting him to other schools, including Alabama and UCLA. "If someone called me, I would take the phone call," Price says.
Dec. 14, 2002 Price tells Cougars players at practice that he isn't going to UCLA — drawing a hearty round of applause — but makes no mention of Alabama.
Dec. 16, 2002 Media reports indicate that Price is now the leading candidate to become the coach at Alabama, especially after news surfaces that Price had visited the Alabama campus with Tide athletic director Mal Moore — an old friend — the previous week.
Dec. 17, 2002 Price tells Cougars players he is leaving to become the coach at Alabama and flies to Tuscaloosa for a news conference the following morning.
Dec. 18, 2002 Price is officially announced as head coach at Alabama, agreeing to — but never signing — a seven-year, $10 million contract. "It's the premier job in the world," Price says. "Alabama football means more to me than you'll ever know ... To walk on the sidelines that (Bear Bryant) walked is a huge honor."
Jan. 1, 2003 Cougars lose to Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl 34-14 in Price's last game as Washington State's coach. "It kind of hits me every now and then what's happened," Price says in an emotional news conference after the game. Price leaves with an 83-77 record in 14 years at WSU.
March 29, 2003 Alabama concludes its first spring practice under Price with the Crimson beating the White 47-0 in the annual A Day scrimmage in front of 34,000 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
April 16-17, 2003 Price plays in a pro-am for the Emerald Coast Classic senior professional golf tournament in Pensacola, Fla. While there, he reportedly spends $200 at a strip club and wakes up the next morning with an unknown woman in his hotel room. The woman charges $1,000 in room service on Price's room account.
April 26, 2003 Price meets twice with Alabama officials to discuss his "public representation of the Alabama athletic department" after days of Internet rumors detailing Price's incidents in Pensacola. Price tells the Mobile Register that "I'm not going to address Internet rumors. I'll make a statement at some time, but not now."
April 30, 2003 Alabama president Robert E. Witt releases a statement announcing he is investigating Price's "behavior in certain public settings and the appropriateness of that behavior." Price, playing in a pro-am golf tournament in Hoover, Ala., says, "I can't make any official comment."
May 1, 2003 Witt releases another statement saying he is nearing the conclusion of his investigation and that he will announce a decision on May 3. Media reports surface about Price's visit to Arety's Angels strip club in Pensacola as well as the $1,000 room-service charge from the unknown woman. Reports also surface that Price had been warned previously by Alabama officials about his behavior.
May 2, 2003 Alabama assistant coaches, who are on the road recruiting, are called back to Tuscaloosa as reports swirl that Price may be fired before he ever coaches a game at Alabama.
May 3, 2003 Price is fired as the 25th football coach in Alabama history, the final decision made by Witt, who acknowledges in the news conference that Price had been warned several weeks earlier about his "public conduct." "I apologize to my wife, my team and my coaches," Price says. "I will learn from this."
