Bet you didn't know: In their own version of March Madness, the underdog Highlanders boys basketball team upset Mercer Island 64-61 in a 1972 state semifinal, setting up their only appearance in the state championship game. Hazen lost that game to Richland 54-53. ... Hazen offered synchronized swimming as a sport during the 1970s.
