Where are they now? Frank Brickowski

Daddy hasn't played in years, and he can't remember the last time he watched a full NBA game. But "basketball" was his 22-month-old son Jack's first big word.

"I don't know where he gets it from," said Frank Brickowski, who played three seasons for the Sonics. "He always wants his basketball and every time he sees a hoop he says, 'basketball.' "

Boards, baskets and outlets have taken on a new meaning since Brickowski, aka "Brick," retired after a 12-year NBA career. The New York native moved to Portland and currently renovates homes from baseboards to electrical outlets as a hobby while taking care of his son. He's remodeled and sold six homes since leaving the league as a Boston Celtic in 1996-97 with career averages of 10 points and 4.7 rebounds.

Brickowski, 43, said he doesn't follow the league closely and wouldn't call himself a sports fan. But he's not oblivious to what is happening. Asked about the Gary Payton trade, Brickowski said it was a good move.

"I don't think his teammates enjoyed playing with him," said Brickowski, who played with Payton during the team's NBA Finals run in 1996. "I'll be honest and say I didn't enjoy having him in the locker room. I appreciated him on the court, but he didn't have the respect of his teammates, which creates a real paradox."
