Camera found in restaurant bathroom ceiling

BELLEVUE — Police were looking for a maintenance man over the weekend after they found a camera hidden in the women's restroom of a restaurant where he had done some contract work.

The 40-year-old Fall City man was wanted for investigation of voyeurism, the Bellevue Police Department said in a press release yesterday.

Officers responded to Coco's Restaurant downtown after a woman complained that she saw something that looked like a tiny camera lens in a hole in the restroom ceiling.

With permission from the restaurant's manager, officers used batons to knock a hole in the ceiling tiles. They discovered a camera attached by a long wire to a videocassette recorder hidden in a rooftop air conditioner.

Investigators were told that the man had done maintenance work at the restaurant on contract, and they obtained a warrant for his arrest.

They served a search warrant at his home Saturday night, but he wasn't there. Officers did find more than 100 marijuana plants as well as evidence of voyeurism, the police statement said.

His 15-year-old sister, who was in the raft with him, asked if he was OK, and he answered that he was before he went under and did not resurface, according to Jan Jorgensen, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman.

A nearby boater eventually pulled Tona to shore. Monroe medics and Snohomish County firefighters performed CPR until the boy was flown to Seattle.
