Prep all-stars: Crusaders' Burnham named Metro MVP
Senior outfielder Burnham, a University of Washington recruit who hit .484 for Eastside Catholic, has been voted most valuable player for the 2002 Metro League baseball season.
Burnham drove in 23 runs, hit nine triples, scored 38 runs and stole 20 bases for the Crusaders, who missed the Metro League playoffs by one game.
Bob Blair, who coached O'Dea to a second-place finish in the Metro tournament and a Final Four appearance in the state playoffs, was voted Metro coach of the year.
Stephen Carlson of Seattle Prep, last year's Metro MVP and a University of California signee, was named by Metro coaches at two positions — infielder and pitcher — on the all-Metro first team. Carlson batted .458 and had a 4-1 pitching record as the Panthers won a second straight Metro title and made the state playoffs for the 10th time in 17 years.

Senior pitcher Alice Kunkel, who helped lead Ballard to a third straight Metro League title and Sea-King District championship, has been voted most valuable player for the 2002 Metro League fastpitch season.
Kunkel helped lead the Beavers into the state tournament and finished her senior season with a 23-4 record.
Al Lowe of Ballard and Jeff Pietz of Seattle Prep were named co-coaches of the year.
