18-year-old's body found in Marysville school lot
A teacher discovered the body of the man, identified only as a Marysville resident, about 6 a.m. near where buses drop off and pick up students. The school is at 6400 88th St. N.E.
The teacher called police, but other teachers and students arriving at school also saw the body.
"This is not necessarily something you plan for," said Karl Kaluza, community-relations manager for the Marysville School District.
Marysville Police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said the death was not thought to be connected with the school or school activities. The unidentified man is not a student in the Marysville district, he said.
The man could had been killed elsewhere or could have run into trouble while walking through the lot, Lamoureux said. However, neighbors didn't hear or see anything unusual overnight and no weapon has been found, he added.
Identification of the man may become final after an autopsy today.
After the body was found, school officials diverted buses carrying Cedarcrest students to nearby Marysville-Pilchuck High School. They were later shuttled back, and all students were kept in their first-period class.
Parents, notified by the school staff, picked up their children throughout the day, but about 10 percent of the approximately 950 students stayed at school because their parents couldn't pick them up, Kaluza said. School will return to normal schedule today.
The man's death is the second in Marysville in the past week. Chase Roodzant, 17, died Thursday after being accidentally shot a day earlier. Michael Franckowiak, 17, is facing an adult manslaughter charge.
