Other key returners: QB Wael Abou-Zaki, 5-8, 165, Jr.; QB/FS Vince Biggs, 6-1, 160, Sr.; OT/LB Mike Clawson, 6-0, 180, Jr.; DE/TE LeAndre Conerly, 6-2, 195, Jr.; RB/LB Mario Holland, 5-10, 190, Jr.; RB/LB Mitchell Holm, 5-10, 170, Jr.; FB/LB Titus Tupua, 5-10, 170, Sr.

Outlook: Kriskovich, former assistant at Ferndale, tries to revive winless program. The Royals have depth at RB and a solid OL.

Arlington

Location: Arlington

Coach: John Boitano, 10th season

2000 record: 6-1 in WesCo 3A, 8-2 overall (advanced to state-playoff qualifying game)

Returning starters: (4 defense, 4 offense) QB/S Kevin McCormack, 6-2, 200, Sr.; RB/LB Joseph Boitano, 5-9, 180, Sr.; G/DT Jason Frank, 5-10, 195, Sr.; G/LB Grady Murphy, 6-0, 215, Sr.

Other key returners: RB/LB Andy Carpenter, 5-9, 180, Sr.; QB/DE Ben Bourasaw, 6-5, 180, Jr.; TE/DE Jeremy Newell, 6-1, 170, Sr.; WR/DB Michael Klein, 6-4, 180, Sr.; WB/LB Vince Willett, 6-0, 170, Jr.; FB/LB Dan Dumovich, 6-0. 185, Jr.; T/DT Guy Willett, 6-2, 220, Sr.

Impact newcomers: WR/DB Tyler Burt, 5-9, 148, Sr.; WB/LB Michael King, 5-10, 150, So.; C/DT Cody Graham, 5-10, 220, So.; RB/DB Brenton Bodewig, 6-0, 155, So.

Outlook: The Eagles move up to Class 4A with a chance to compete for a playoff spot immediately. McCormack is a prolific passer, and Arlington is solid on defense. Arlington's other three returning starters (Boitano, Frank and Murphy) are among the better players in the league at their positions. Lack of size on the lines could be a concern, so look for the Eagles to do what they have done with success in the past: Pass often and try to outrun opponents.

Cascade

Location: Everett

Coach: Rollie Wilson, third season

2000 record: 3-5 in league, 4-5 overall

Returning starters: (4 offense, 4 defense) SE/FS Mike Skoor, 6-4, 195, Sr.; G/LB Rob Sofie, 6-0, 215, Sr.; G/DL Alex Lee, 6-2, 230, Sr.; T/DL Jesse Calderon, 6-4, 285, Sr.

Other key returners: RB/CB Andrew McGuire, 5-8, 160, Sr.; RB/DB Justin Johnson, 5-11, 170, Sr.; FB/DL Tony Snow, 6-4, 220, Sr.; FB/DB Andy Hughes, 5-10, 160, Sr.; QB/LB Paul Curtiss, 6-3, 200, Sr.; TE/DE Kyle Shasteen, 6-4, 235, Sr.; T/DL Mat Ramsey, 6-1, 290, Sr.

Impact newcomer: SE/DB Marcus Hansen, 6-5, 190, Sr.

Outlook: The Bruins are hungry to atone for the school's first losing record in more than a decade last season, and although Wilson sees this as a rebuilding year, Cascade should make a run at a playoff berth. The good news for Cascade is that Wilson, who left the team midway through last season to have surgery and did not return, is back and healthy, and the Bruins' core seniors have good size and skill to lead the team back.

Lake Stevens

Location: Lake Stevens

Coach: Ken Collins, 12th season

2000 record: 7-0 in WesCo 3A, 10-2 overall, advanced to 3A state quarterfinals

Returning starters (4 offense, 4 defense): FB/LB Joey Daube, 5-10, 200, Sr.; TB/DB Justin Balunsat, 5-7, 160, Sr.; T/DE Ryan Klett, 6-3, 225, Sr.; G/T Marc Bryce, 5-9, 210, Sr.; OT/DT Anthony Bonilla, 6-1, 215, Sr.; WR/S Kevin Hutchinson, 6-3, 150, Sr.; WR/S Ryan Andrews, 6-0, 170, Sr.

Other key returners: TB/LB Nate Thomason, 5-6, 170, Sr.; T/DE Jake McMahon, 6-6, 215, Sr.; T/DE Mike Johnson, 6-3, 230, Sr.; QB/LB Mitch Canham, 6-1, 175, Jr.; WR/DB David Johnson, 5-6, 145, Jr.; TE/LB Dylan Henderson, 6-1, 185, Jr.; C/T Cale Warner, 6-0, 235, Sr.

Impact newcomers: None listed.

Outlook: The Vikings may not have the size and speed they had on last year's WesCo 3A title team, but Collins will have them ready to compete in 4A. Depth on the offensive line is a concern, and Lake Stevens lost some great athletes from last year's team, but the Vikings should finish in the upper half of the division. Daube is considered one of the league's best at both FB and LB.

Marysville-Pilchuck

Location: Marysville

Coach: Dick Abrams, 4th season

2000 record: 4-4 in league, 4-5 overall

Returning starters (4 offense, 4 defense): QB/FS Ryan Swobody, 5-10, 165, Sr.; RB/DE Joe Dickerson, 5-10, 185, Sr.; FB/LB C.J. Freeman, 5-9, 185, Sr.; WR/DB Ben Siekawitch, 5-9, 155, Sr.; TE/DB Tyler Fagan, 6-0, 182, Sr.; TB/DB Sebastian Jones, 5-11, 170, Sr.

Other key returners: FB/LB Justin Powers, 5-10, 185, Sr.; WB/DB Tyler Thompson, 5-10, 155, Sr.; WB/LB Tyler Dormaier, 5-9, 145, Sr.; OL/LB Mason Moore, 5-9, 181, Sr.; OL/LB David Barnhart, 5-10, 180, Sr.; OL/DL Darren Littell, 6-2, 217, Sr.; OL/DL Saleem Dean, 5-10, 184, Sr.; OL/DL Kiko Juvinel, 5-10, 220, Sr.; OL/DL Jeff Mayes, 6-3, 317, Sr.

Impact newcomers: None listed.

Outlook: The Tomahawks will be experienced in the backfield, but need to develop an offensive line to block for M-P's bevy of tailbacks, fullbacks and wingbacks. Size is an issue at several positions on both offense and defense.

Monroe

Location: Monroe

Coach: Randy Olson, 11th season

2000 record: 2-5 in WesCo 3A, 2-7 overall

Returning starters: (7 offense, 4 defense): RB/LB C.J.Poff, 5-10, 180, Sr.; TE/DE Nick Lewis, 6-2, 200, Sr.; OT/DT Keith Hunter, 6-4, 285, Sr.; RB/LB Kody Wilkins, 5-10, 215, Sr.; OG/DT Zach Shumpert, 6-2, 275, Sr.; OT/DT Eric Gertsch, 6-0, 250, Sr.; OT/DT Tyler Delp, 6-3, 300, Sr.

Other key returners: OT/DT Tyler Smith, 6-2, 220, Sr.; OT/DT Brian Ellison, 6-4, 320, Sr.; C/DT Matt Donat, 6-0, 265, Sr.; OG/DE Tyler Albery, 6-0, 175, Sr.; QB/WR Sam Eagle, 5-9, 150, Jr.; QB/SS Joe Dobish, 5-10, 150, Jr.; OL/LB Cole Wilkins, 5-10, 200, Jr.; OT/DT Chris Bryant, 6-0, 275, Jr.

Impact newcomer: RB/DB Jared Wood, 5-10, 170, Sr.

Outlook: The Bearcats have size, but question marks are speed and athleticism. Olson believes Monroe will have a good chance to beat former 3A schools in WesCo North.

Mount Vernon

Location: Mount Vernon

Coach: Paul Christianson, fifth season

2000 record: 6-1 in Northwest 3A League, 9-2 overall

Returning starters: (7 offense, 6 defense) QB/P Kyle Kendrick, 6-3, 168, Jr.; FB/ILB Justin Adkins, 6-1, 282, Sr.; TB/OLB Brook Caudill, 5-10, 192, Sr.; OL/DE Jon Roozen, 6-3, 222, Sr.; DT Adam Grobschmit, 6-3, 362, Jr.; WR/KR/DB Victor Carrillo, 5-8, 147, Sr.; OL Chase Kinney, 5-10, Sr.; K Mark Knue, 5-11, 168, Jr.

Other key returners: OL/DE Ben Martin, 6-6, 214, Sr.; TB/SS Brian Skjei, 6-3, 178, Jr.; OL/DT Jim Peterson, 6-1, 265, Sr.; OL/OLB Eric Cunningham, 5-10, 200, Jr.; WR/SS Brian Roetcisoender, 5-8, 160, Jr.

Outlook: The Bulldogs will be competitive for a playoff spot, in large part because of Kendrick's ability to pass and run and a massive offensive line that averages 262 pounds. Concerns could be at defensive back and receiver, where they are somewhat undersized.

Oak Harbor

Location: Oak Harbor

Coach: Dave Ward, 10th season

2000 record: 2-6 in league, 2-7 overall

Returning starters: (6 offense, 6 defense) RB/LB Tom McMickle, 5-9, 183, Sr.; WR/LB Ryan Ford, 5-10, 168, Sr.; OG/DE Jon Goodwin, 6-2, 207, Sr.; OG/DT Fred Cheeseboro, 5-9, 219, Sr.; TE/S Mark VanOort, 6-0, 177, Sr.; FB/LB Nick Garcia, 5-9, 203, Sr.; RB/S Grant Bull, 6-1, 174, Jr.; OG/DT Chad Asmus, 6-1, 191, Jr.; RB/SS Cody Parker, 5-10, 167, Jr.; RB/LB James Wiley, 5-11, 175, Sr.; RB/CB Adam Diaz, 5-10, 168, So.

Other key returners: OT/DT Chris Whiteman, 6-1, 216, Sr.; OT/DT Sean Hogan, 6-2, 267, Sr.; SE/CB Chad Hembree, 6-0, 171, Sr.; RB/LB Pat Metcalf, 5-9, 176, Sr.

Impact newcomers: C/DT Andrew Horning, 5-11, 184, So.; QB/DE John Lobbestael, 6-3, 185, So.; RB/DE Nate Metcalf, 6-1, 190, So.; FB/LB Blake Ward, 6-0, 195, So.

Outlook: Wildcats defense was one of the league's best last season.
