David Byrne song added to XP operating system
Apparently, that's what Microsoft is hoping. The company announced yesterday that a song by former Talking Head David Byrne will be included in its new Windows XP operating system, due out Oct. 25.
The lyrics to the free song, "Like Humans Do," aren't exactly the words you expect to come out of your personal computer — much less from the normally staid software giant:
"I work & I sleep & I dance & I'm dead/I'm eatin, I'm laughin & I'm lovin myself/I never watch TV except when I'm stoned/like humans do."
The song from Byrne's latest album, "Look Into the Eyeball," is part of Microsoft's effort to promote the souped-up, consumer-friendly version of its digital music and movie system, Windows Media Player.
Byrne, who gained fame in the post-punk 1970s and '80s, also recorded a concert at Microsoft's studios, to be broadcast over the Web at WindowsMedia.com/previewv2/xpconcerts at 4 p.m. today. It will also be available for replay through this month.
