OAKLAND — Quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo, who was voted Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year and led Washington to a Rose Bowl victory over Purdue, signed a six-year contract with the Oakland Raiders yesterday.
Tuiasosopo reportedly got a $3.7 million deal that includes a $1.5 million bonus; the contract can be voided after five years. His annual salary reportedly will be $209,000 for the first season, $298,000 for the second, $389,000 for the third, $418,000 for the fourth, $448,000 for the fifth and $477,000 for the final season.
The former Woodinville High standout, a second-round draft choice, was the 59th player selected.
Moss may be an expensive catch
MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Vikings appear to have made little progress during renewed efforts to sign Randy Moss to a long-term extension.
Moss wants to become the highest-paid player in the league. He is set to make a base salary of $3.5 million in 2001, the final year of his four-year contract.
The Vikings have offered to make Moss the top-paid receiver, a deal that would include a signing bonus of about $14 million and an annual average salary around $7 million. But talks broke down when Moss and agent Dante DiTrapano considered the $7.5 million average of Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre their benchmark.
Moss said in June it would be "reasonable" to expect a signing bonus of up to $20 million and an overall contract of about $100 million.
Notes
• The league suspended defensive tackle Cletidus Hunt of the Green Bay Packers for the first four regular-season games for violating the NFL substance-abuse policy.
• The Miami Dolphins signed defensive end Jason Taylor to a one-year, $5.39 million tender offer
• The Tennessee Titans agreed on a one-year contract with veteran running back Jonathan Linton, who previously played for Buffalo.
• The Cleveland Browns signed offensive lineman Tony Jones to a three-year contract. Jones, released by Denver, played for Cleveland from 1988-95.
• The St. Louis Rams signed tight end Steve Bush, a free agent who spent the last four seasons with Cincinnati.
