Basketball: Mt. Vernon's Reisman earns 3A MVP award

YAKIMA - They weren't the stars of the show. Not with Mount Vernon's Josh Reisman on the same court, not to mention the same team.
But West Valley's Ryan Durall and Sunnyside's Jake Van Pelt were by no means lost among the other celebrities who helped Reisman lead the City team to a 122-90 conquest of the State squad last night in the Class 3A all-state boys basketball game at the SunDome.
Reisman, one of four Mount Vernon players in the game (two for each side), was the game's obvious MVP by totaling 24 points and eight rebounds.
Other games
Class 4A — Marc Axton of Foss totaled 20 points and nine rebounds and his Foss teammate, Solomon Wyatt, had 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals as the State beat the City 87-78. Wyatt was named game MVP.
Class 2A — With a 9-0 run in the final two minutes, the City broke away for an 83-77 victory over the State. Todd Bergers, a 6-5 forward from Lynden Christian, connected on 8 of 10 field goals and had four rebounds and three assists to earn MVP honors. Lynden Christian teammate Grant Dykstra, the 2A state Player of the Year, had only five points but pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.
Class 1A — Led by Seattle Christian's Max Fletcher and Zillah's Ryan Cheek, the State team ran away from the City 100-87. Fletcher scored a game-high 21 points on 7-for-10 shooting and grabbed four rebounds. Cheek hauled in 10 rebounds and 17 points to earn MVP honors. Six players scored in double figures for the City, led by King's Craig Roosendaal, who had 15.
Class B - Wilbur-Creston's A.J. Nelson scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, good enough for MVP honors, to lead his City team to a 93-79 victory over the State.
