The Vashon Library is expecting visitors from near and far for Saturday's Betty MacDonald Day celebration. All events are within walking distance of each other. For more information call 206-463-2069. The events:

10 a.m. - Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle Stories: Librarian Hester Kremer leads a read-along session for children (Vashon Library, 17210 Vashon Highway, S.W.).

11 a.m. - Blanche Caffiere, 94-year-old author of "Much Laughter, A Few Tears," recalls her friendship with MacDonald (Vashon Land Trust Building, 10014 S.W. Bank Road).

Noon - A panel discussion with MacDonald's daughter Joan Keil and MacDonald's grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends (Vashon Land Trust Building).

1 p.m. to 5 p.m. - An exhibit of MacDonald memorabilia (Vashon-Maury Island Heritage Association, 10105 S.W. Bank Road).

2 p.m. to 5 p.m. - Guided tours of key MacDonald landmarks on Vashon Island, by limited registration. The tours are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. No advance registration; sign-up starts at 1:30 p.m. Tours depart at 2, 3 and 4 p.m., from the Vashon-Maury Island Heritage Association.

All events are free, except for the guided tour which is $5.
