EWU's haul of 26 includes Pasco duo

CHENEY - Two players from Class 4A champion Pasco and three from King County are among the 26 letters of intent Eastern Washington received yesterday. Twenty-one are from state high schools.
That's quite a boost from last year. The Eagles had 16 players on signing day, 13 from the state's high schools. Eastern must replace 14 seniors from last year's team.
Eastern, a Division I-AA school that plays in the Big Sky Conference, recruited Doug Vincent and wide receiver Raul Vijil from Pasco. Vincent's older brother, Luke, is projected to be a starter at middle linebacker.
The three from King County high schools are Brandon Stark of Issaquah, Gavin Riach of Edmonds-Woodway and Vernon Word of Mariner.
Of the three quarterback recruits Eastern Washington signed, only Wes Henry of Mead is from Washington.

Western signs Sherard
BELLINGHAM - Outside linebacker Duncan Sherard of Roosevelt is one of three Seattle Times red-chip selections who have signed letters of intent to play football for Western Washington.
The two other red-chip picks among Western's 14 signees are defensive ends from Whatcom County - Joey Joshua of Ferndale and Kevin Kamphouse of Nooksack Valley. Joshua and Kamphouse turned down scholarship offers from NCAA Division I-A or I-AA schools.

Central signs Piercy
ELLENSBURG - Inglemoor lineman Josh Piercy is among 12 recruits who have signed letters of intent to play football for Central Washington next fall. Piercy, a 6-foot-3, 260-pound lineman, earned Star Times and All-KingCo 4A first-team honors last season.
Heading the class is wide receiver Derrick Williams, a transfer who was honorable-mention JC All-American at Snow in Utah and a former standout at Lakes High School.
