Jury finds Spanaway man guilty of 2 more rapes
KENT - A King County Superior Court jury has convicted a Spanaway man of two rapes and two attempted rapes, though two victims could not identify him as their attacker.
Frank Nordlund, whom prosecutors believe is the "Kent-Parkland rapist" blamed for 20 attacks in 1998-99, was convicted Monday after 3 1/2 days of deliberation. No sentencing date has been set. Nordlund, also convicted in a series of mid-1980s rapes, faces a life term for each attack under the state's "Two Strikes You're Out" law for repeat sex offenders.
He already has been sentenced to one life term and has another pending after convictions earlier this year in Pierce County. A final Pierce County trial was scheduled to start today.
Victims of the Kent-Parkland rapist were often attacked from behind, during the day. Fighting back or screaming frequently was enough to scare him off.
Nordland was convicted of two counts of first-degree rape and two counts of first-degree attempted rape.
