Third Lotto jackpot winner shows up to claim his prize

OLYMPIA - A self-employed building contractor from Hanford, Calif., arrived at the Washington State Lottery's Spokane office yesterday to claim his one-third share of a record $32 million Lotto jackpot.

John R. Scott, 47, said he plans to invest his winnings and finish projects. "Vacation planning will be a lot more fun now," he told state officials.

Scott, who conducts business in both California and Washington, bought his winning Lotto ticket at a Fred Meyer store in Spokane.

He chose the one-time cash-payment option, rather than annual payments, and walked away with $3.84 million after withholding for federal income taxes.

The other two winners were Daryn Young, 36, of Lake Stevens, a manager at a beverage-distributing company, and Long Phan, 51, of Auburn, a stocker at a warehouse.
