Seattle Times hires new business editor

The Seattle Times has a new business editor: Becky Bisbee.

Bisbee, 42, comes to the Northwest from Texas, where she was business editor of The Austin American-Statesman. That paper has won certificates of merit from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers as one of the "Best in Business" in its circulation category. Like Seattle, Austin is home to many technology-based businesses.

Bisbee succeeds Robert Weisman, who joined the staff of the Boston Globe.

Previously, Bisbee worked as an editor and a reporter at newspapers in California and Maryland. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland. She is married to Gene Bisbee, an online journalist, and has two children.

"We're thrilled to have landed a journalist of Becky's intelligence and passion," said Assistant Managing Editor David Boardman. "We aim to make our business and technology coverage indispensable, and she's the leader to help us achieve that."

Bisbee's e-mail address is bbisbee@seattletimes.com. Her phone number is 206-464-2494.
