Sisco shifts to Eastlake, may play baseball only
One of the state's best high-school athletes is changing schools for his senior year and says he may concentrate on baseball and not play football or basketball.
Andy Sisco, a 6-foot-9, 260-pound left-handed pitcher, said yesterday he is transferring to Eastlake High School from Redmond High School because of "convenience."
He said he lives on the Sammamish Plateau close to Eastlake. Because of traffic congestion, he said he has averaged 45 minutes getting to Redmond High School and 55 minutes returning home.
Sisco, who has a 3.25 grade point, said he initially chose Redmond because of academic offerings such as Japanese.
Sisco said he is allowed to transfer and retain his eligibility because Redmond and Eastlake both are within the Lake Washington School District and there is space available at Eastlake.
Sisco is a strong candidate to be a first-round pick in next spring's baseball draft. His fastball has been clocked at more than 90 mph, and he has a good variety of other pitches. He had a 7-3 record with a 2.65 ERA last spring for Redmond's state-playoff team. He had 85 strikeouts in 60 2/3 innings and easily made the KingCo 4A Conference all-star team.
He was an honorable-mention pick in football and basketball. He was among the conference leaders in sacks as a defensive end. In basketball, he averaged 8.2 points.
Redmond is considered the preseason football favorite in the KingCo Conference.
Notes
-- Steve Nuce has resigned as girls basketball coach at Eastside Catholic High School two months after taking the job.
"After having a chance to re-evaluate things a little bit, he decided it wasn't time for him to take on head-coaching duties," said Athletic Director Mark Brandmire. The AD said the decision will enable Nuce to spend time with his family. Nuce was a boys varsity assistant at Kentwood last season.
-- Guard Josh Reisman, the sixth man on the Mount Vernon High School basketball team, has made an oral commitment to play at Gonzaga University. Reisman will sign a letter of intent during the NCAA's early signing period in November.
