Brother of death-row inmate hangs himself
ROSEBURG, Ore. - The brother of Oregon's youngest death-row inmate has hanged himself, Roseburg police said.
Walkers on a bike path found Robert Fanus Jr., 22, hanging from a railing at a Gaddis Park baseball field yesterday. A type of nylon lead rope or leash was used in the hanging and there were no bruises or cuts indicative of a struggle, according to the Douglas County Medical Examiner's Office.
There was no suicide note at the scene.
Robert's brother, Jesse, was sentenced to death in May 1999 for the murder of World War II ace Marion Carl. At 21, Jesse is the youngest inmate on Oregon's death row.
A wanted poster of Jesse from the time of the June 1998 murder was found in Robert's pocket.
