Softball / KingCo 3A

Last week, Liberty and Sammamish played a game that decided the KingCo 3A regular-season softball title. Tomorrow, the two teams will play for the league's No. 1 seed to the Sea-King District tournament.

It figures the two teams would dominate all-KingCo 3A honors, too. Together, Sammamish and Liberty accounted for eight of the 12 first-team selections. Liberty had five first-team selections, including league MVP Carmen Kier. Sammamish had three players named first-team all-league.

Newport was the only other KingCo 3A team with more than one first-team choice - senior Laura Nestler and Kira Hollenbeck, the only freshman chosen to the team.

Sammamish's Jami Lewis and Kier were the only sophomores named to the first team. Lewis was a first-team pitcher along with Liberty junior Jessica Johnson. Kier was the first-team third baseman.

Kathy Phon and Kari Lappin were the other first-team honorees from Sammamish. Hannah Owings, Sarah Carrier and Tegan O'Leary were the other first-team selections from Liberty.

Issaquah's Crista Decker and Interlake's Lyndsay Henthorn were also first-team picks.

Coach of the Year - Julie Jackson, Liberty, and Mike Eckhart, Sammamish.

Sportsmanship Award - Liberty.
