Shoreline Stadium renovation project to bring $4.5 million in improvements
SHORELINE - The long-awaited renovation of Shoreline Stadium finally is in full swing, with $4.5 million in improvements planned by the Shoreline School District.
Renovation of the seating area began April 17. The press box and gymnasium will be upgraded, with the gym outside the stadium on the grounds of what once was Shoreline High School.
A new track-and-field throwing area, an all-weather surface in the javelin pit and a new discus cage with seating for fans also are scheduled. Most improvements are expected to be completed Sept. 1, in time for football and girls soccer seasons.
"We're real excited about it," said Paul Lesh, district athletic director. He said the project is the last of a series of district facility improvements that started in the early 1990s.
Shorewood and Shorecrest high schools have not had a home track meet all season. Some track practices and all boys soccer games at the stadium have been unaffected by construction.
Tomorrow's Shoreline Invitational boys track and field meet was moved to Goddard Stadium in Mukilteo because of the renovation project.
Lesh said track coaches Don Dalziel of Shorecrest and Cecil Jackson of Shorewood look forward to improved facilities for their athletes.
"The new throwing areas are going to be the best around," Lesh said.
