Seen, Heard, Said
Tinseltown biz: -- The male leads have been chosen to join Renee Zellweger in "Bridget Jones' Diary": Colin Firth and Hugh Grant. Richard Curtis - who directed Hugh in "Notting Hill," which he also wrote - is scripting "Bridget." Shooting gets under way May 1. -- Ron Howard is in talks to helm "A Beautiful Mind," from Sylvia Nasar's book about John Forbes Nash Jr., a Nobel Prize-winning genius who became a paranoid schizophrenic. A-list actors interested in the project include Tom Cruise, Variety reports.
The dating game:
-- Actress Gina Gershon and artist Damien Loeb.
-- Bo Derek and Ted Turner. Yes, that Bo Derek. Yes, that Ted Turner.
Some people are so tacky. See, with characteristic (albeit wry) dignity, we just told you that mogul Ted Turner (separated from wife Jane Fonda) has been seen with Bo Derek (widowed two years ago from husband/actor/mentor John). We did not feel it necessary to say that Bo was a 10 when she was in her 20s. Nor did we feel compelled to point out that, at 43, she's about 19 years younger than Jane.
The New York Daily News reports that RuPaul is feeling dissed about not getting a gift basket like the other stars of the "VH1 Divas" show. Apparently Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, Faith Hill and Donna Summer were treated to a diamond necklace, diamond watch, cell phone and monogrammed bathrobe. A VH1 rep told the Daily News that the baskets were "still in the process of being delivered." But the rep also said Ru's getting "a man's basket" and that the baskets vary in value. Hey, we're with Ru: If it's a raffia ditty bag, eau de bay rum and those little foldable slippers, we don't wanna be there when the marabou hits the fan.
