Kingshott's 46 breaks Mount Vernon record
MOUNT VERNON - Kyle Kingshott was in a groove. When he finished, he was the new owner of Mount Vernon High School's scoring record.
Kingshott pumped in 46 points Friday night as the second-ranked Bulldogs beat Sqaulicum 89-61 in a Class 3A Northwest League game. That bettered the Mount Vernon record of 45, set in February 1990 by Tim Caviezel in a 105-42 victory over Sedro-Woolley.
"I didn't come into the game thinking I was going to score that many," Kingshott told Eric Francis of the Skagit Valley Herald. "It just seemed to happen."
Kingshott, a 6-foot-5 senior forward, hit his first 15 shots of the game and finished 16 for 17 from the field - including 4 of 4 from three-point range. He didn't miss a field goal until the fourth quarter. He also hit 10 of 13 free throws.
"I can't say enough for the play of the other guys," Kingshott said. "I can't say enough for the play of the other guys. Without them, I couldn't have got it. They did a great job, and I really appreciate it."
The performance ended a productive week for Kingshott, who scored 89 points in three games - including 21 on Monday at KeyArena in a 68-67 overtime loss to Garfield. Kingshott made 85 percent of his field goals in the three games.
Mount Vernon improved to 7-0 in the league and 12-2 overall.
