High-School Basketball; Hot-shooting K-M unloads on Chargers

KENT - Quinn Thomas knocked down five three-pointers to lead the sharpshooting Kent-Meridian Royals to a 61-34 victory over Kentridge last night in an SPSL North Division girls basketball game.

Kent-Meridian (7-1, 9-3) made 7 of 11 thee-point attempts. Kentridge made only 1 of 7 treys.

Thomas finished with 20 points, McKenzie Duffin 12 and Connie Poydras 10 for K-M. Connie Rasmussen had seven assists and four steals for the Royals.

Auburn 40, at Auburn Riverside 33 - The Trojans (5-4, 6-9) took a two-point lead into the fourth quarter and pulled away for an SPSL North victory. Erin Bender and Liz Nodolf led Auburn with eight points each. Maria Hidalgo scored nine for the Ravens.

At Kentwood 56, Kentlake 24 - Abbe Roche scored 11 of the Conquerors' 17 first-quarter points as they roared to a 17-3 lead in an SPSL North game. The contest was marred by the ejection of a player from each team. Roche finished with 13 points and six steals and Katie Folden had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Kentwood (4-4, 6-6). Cori Hamblin led Kentlake with eight points.

Enumclaw 63, at Tahoma 38 - The 10th-ranked Hornets took charge in the second half to stay unbeaten in the SPSL North. Enumclaw (8-0, 13-1) led only 26-18 at halftime. Emily Clyde and Jenny Poe scored 13 points each and Rebekah Gamblin had 12 for the Hornets. Nicole Mazen led Tahoma (5-4, 6-8) with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

At King's 63, Overlake 33 - Jessica Mendezona scored a career-high 15 points while Mariko Trias hit 4 of 6 three-pointers for 12 points for King's (5-1, 9-4) in the Chinook League victory. Hillary Pentz scored 13 points for the Owls (2-3, 7-4).

At Bush 37, Summit 33 - Nobody reached double figures, but the Blazers (4-0, 9-7) got scoring from eight players in the Sea-Tac A/B League victory. Jenna Crouch and Lauren Soderland each had 10 rebounds for Bush. Jessica Marshall scored 19 points for Summit.

At King's West 47, Forks 43 (OT) - King's West went 6 for 8 at the free-throw line in overtime to escape with the nonleague victory. The Warriors had a three-point lead before Forks hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime. Beth Grahams, a 6-2 junior, collected 10 points, 12 rebounds, five steals and four blocked shots for the Warriors (10-3).

At Cedar Park Christian 50, Kent View Christian 32 - Melissa Salios scored 18 points and also contributed nine assists and six steals for the Eagles (3-1, 8-7). April Raynor had 18 points, eight assists and six rebounds for Cedar Park. Jenni Copeland scored 10 points for KVC.

At Life Christian 45, Bellevue Christian 21 - Ashley Hartman scored 25 points for Life Christian (3-1, 7-6) in the Chinook League victory.

At University Prep 32, Northwest School 30 (OT) - Meghan Harris scored the winning basket in overtime for the Pumas (3-6 overall) in the Sea-Tac A/B League victory. Harris finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Jamie Olsen led U-Prep with 10 points.

LATE FRIDAY GIRLS

Monroe 92, at Lynnwood 39 - Fauziya Muhammed scored a career-high 30 points as sixth-ranked Monroe (5-1, 10-2) cruised to the WesCo 3A victory. Muhammed, in her third season as a starter, entered the game with a 17-point average, but exceeded her average in the second quarter alone. The 5-foot-9 junior point guard scored 18 points as the Bearcats exploded for a 27-11 run en route to a 40-17 halftime lead. Muhammed hit 14 of 18 field goals and made 2 of 3 free throws.

YESTERDAY'S BOYS GAMES

At Puyallup 61, Decatur 51 - Ben Riippi hit four free throws late in the game as the Vikings (5-1 SPSL South, 9-2) held off the Gators. Riippi had 13 points and Kevin Hayes 10 to pace the balanced Vikings. Nick Moxley scored 20 and Niko Nunogawa 13 for Decatur.

King's 61, at Overlake 38 - Craig Roosendaal's 16 points and 10 rebounds led the Knights (6-0, 12-1) past the Owls (0-5, 6-6) in a Chinook League game. Overlake, which trailed by only 11 going into the fourth quarter, was hurt by 24 turnovers. Taylor Roberts had 14 points and Mark Freise 11 for King's. Andy Stearn led the Owls with 16.

At Cedar Park Christian 56, Kent View Christian 44 - Rob Garey scored 11 points in a 20-4 fourth-quarter run as Cedar Park rallied for the nonleague victory. Kent View led 40-36 after three quarters. Gary finished with 20 points and teammate Nick Newsham had 13 for the Eagles (8-4). Shaun Smith scored 17 points for the Mustangs (5-5).

At University Prep 57, Northwest School 44 - Dorian Bunker-Pardo scored 16 of his 27 points in the second half and Charlie Meyerson had 18 rebounds and seven blocked shots for U-Prep (4-1, 4-7) in the Sea-Tac B League victory. Patrick Scott scored 16 poiknts for Northwest (0-5, 2-9).

At Friday Harbor 53, Seattle Lutheran 46 - Tyrone Shepherd scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Saints (10-3), but they couldn't catch Friday Harbor after falling behind by double digits in the third quarter of the nonleague game. Bobby Turman scored 10 points and Tyler Williams had 15 for Wolverines (9-4).
