Mountain Bike Recall

Huffy Bicycle Co. and Royce Union Bicycles Co. Inc. are recalling about 22,300 men's mountain bikes because the frames can break, causing falls and serious injuries. The bikes were made by the same manufacturer in Taiwan.

Royce Union has received four reports, and Huffy two, about bike frames breaking and causing serious head and back injuries, abrasions and contusions.

The Huffy recall involves ALX 1000 bikes with the model No. 26809, which are silver and blue; ALX 1500 bikes with the model No. 26849, which are silver and green; and aluminum 300 bikes with the model No. K6809, which are silver and black. The model number is on the bottom of the frame near the crank and pedals. The word "Huffy" appears down the tube. Huffy bikes sold for about $160 at sporting-goods and discount department stores from June 1998 through September 1999.

The Royce recall involves ABT 2000 bikes with the model No. 16368. The number is on the bottom of the frame near the crank and pedals. The 26-inch bikes are silver and red and have "Aluminum 2000" written on the top tube. Sears sold the bikes nationwide through September 1999 for about $300.

Stop riding the bikes and call 888-366-3828 for information about a replacement bike.

SLEEPWEAR RECALL

Gap Inc. is recalling 231,000 children's pajamas because the sleepwear does not meet federal flammability standards.

Federal standards require sleepwear to be flame-resistant, and if the fabric ignites the flame must self-extinguish.

There have been no reports of injuries, but Gap Inc. is voluntarily conducting the recall to prevent injuries.

Six styles are involved in the recall of the sleepwear, which was made with 100 percent polyester. The sleepwear, sold at prices ranging from $20 to $39, was available at GapKids, babyGap, Gap Outlet and Old Navy stores nationwide from August through early this month.

The style numbers are:

353558, a two-piece, front-button flannel style with long sleeves and pants, in yellow with penguin print, or navy with a bear print.

353554, a two-piece, front-button fleece style with long sleeves and long pants in white, blue and pink with a snowflake print.

733002, a one-piece, footed, zip-front fleece style with long sleeves in a blue and white snowflake print, labeled "babyGap."

733032, a one-piece, footed, zip-front fleece style with long sleeves, in black and white pony print and a cheetah print, labeled "babyGap."

466291, a one-piece, footed zip-front fleece style with long sleeves, in navy with white star print, labeled "babyGap."

674060, a two-piece, button-front top with long sleeves, long pants, in lavender or blue with white piping, labeled "Old Navy."

Don't let youngsters wear these PJs. Return the sleepwear to any Gap or Old Navy store for a refund plus a $10 gift certificate. For more information, call Gap Inc. at 800-GAPSTYLE (800-427-7895) or 800-OLDNAVY (800-653-6289). Or check the Web sites www.gap.com or www.oldnavy.co.
