Prep Beat -- Blanchet High Adds `Bishop' To Name

Blanchet High School now wants to be called Bishop Blanchet High School.

Kent Hickey, first-year principal from Milwaukee, is pushing the change so the school will be more recognizable as a Catholic school.

Assistant Principal Chuck Bocian said, "People new to this area don't recognize it as a Catholic school unless they walk into the building."

Bocian said the school will be called Bishop Blanchet High School in all future brochures and mailings. It was referred to as Bishop Blanchet High School at a recent open house for prospective students.

Blanchet is named after Bishop Augustine Blanchet, who in 1850 established the first archdiocese in what would become Western Washington.
