Northwest -- Tateyama Moves Closer To Su Record

Five players scored and Trisha Tateyama moved closer to breaking the Seattle University career scoring record as the Chieftains blanked Evergreen State College 5-0 yesterday in a nonconference game at SU's Championship Field.

Tateyama is seven points from breaking the scoring record of 113 points set by Ingrid Gunnestad (1988-92). Tateyama has 107 points on 37 goals and 33 assists.

Kristin Denny, Jennifer Higgins, Jennifer Baker and Katie Fischer also scored for Seattle University, which improved to 11-4-1.

Carrie Geraghty and Elizabeth Anderson shared the shutout.

Squash final set

Michelle Martin and Cassie Campion moved into the championship match of the Women's World Squash Championships.

Martin, an Australian who is the top-ranked woman's player in the world, posted a 9-7, 9-0, 9-6 win over third-seeded Natalie Grainger of England. Fourth-seeded Campion, from England, upended second-seeded Leilani Joyce of New Zealand 9-6, 9-3, 9-3.

Today's championship will be played at 3:30 p.m. at the Seattle Athletic Club/Downtown.

-- The Washington women's volleyball team completed a weekend sweep with a 3-0 win over Oregon at the Edmundson Pavilion Addition. Game scores were 15-8, 15-8, 15-8. The Huskies, who beat Oregon State on Friday night, improved to 8-11 overall and 4-7 in the Pac-10. Oregon (0-11, 6-14) lost its 14th consecutive match. Washington got a strong showing from sophomores Lisa Underhill (13 kills) and Allison Richardson (12 kills).

-- Heather Wallace was the individual winner as Seattle Pacific beat Western Washington in a women's cross-country meet at Camp Casey. The Falcons, who defend their Pacific West Conference championships next Saturday at Lincoln Park, finished with a perfect score of 15 and the Vikings totaled 47 points.

In the men's meet, Western edged SPU 27-28.

Wallace covered the 4,000-meter course in 15:51, with teammate Nicole Seana the runner-up in 16:14.

Western's Devin Camper won the men's 4-mile event in 21:08. The Falcons' Nathanael Castle was second in 21:27 and SPU teammate Ryan Nash third in 21:43.

-- Tye Tolentino scored the only goal as the University of Puget Sound men's soccer team extended its winning streak to eight games with a 1-0 Northwest Conference victory over Pacific University in Tacoma. It was the 15th victory of the season for the Loggers (9-1, 15-1).

-- Trina Book of Renton set a Long Island University record with 30 kills as the Blackbirds from Brooklyn, N.Y., beat Albany 15-8, 15-10, 15-11, 17-15 in a women's volleyball match.

-- Washington State's Erica Perkins lost a three-set rematch, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (2), to 40th-ranked Ana Friganovic of New Mexico in the consolation singles round of the Riviera Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Washington's Kristina Kraszewski lost to Texas' Michelle Faucher 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 in the singles consolation quarterfinals.

-- Stacey Wood scored with four minutes left in regulation as Western Washington played Colorado Christian to a 2-2 tie in a women's soccer game in Bellingham. -- Anton Apolo Ohno of Seattle finished third in the men's 1,000 meters and fifth in the 3,000 meters at the short track speedskating World Cup in Montreal.

-- Washington's Elisha Au shot a 69 and climbed 16 spots for fourth place with a two-round total of 144 at the Stanford Tournament. The Huskies' Kelli Kamimura fell to 18th place with a 149.

-- Danielle Dettorre netted her second triple-double of the season, racking up an impressive 20 kills, 18 assists, and 19 digs as Seattle Pacific overpowered Humboldt State 14-16, 16-14, 15-11, 15-9 in a PacWest volleyball match in Arcata, Calif.
