Chuck Daly Resigns As Coach Of Magic

ORLANDO, Fla. - Chuck Daly resigned as coach of the Orlando Magic today, nine days after his team was eliminated from the NBA playoffs.

Daly, who won two championships with the Detroit Pistons, had one year left on his three-year, $15 million contract. He will remain with the team as a consultant.

Daly had a stormy relationship with the team's best player, Penny Hardaway. He questioned Hardaway in many areas, from his desire to his positioning on the court.

Daly, 68, who also coached the Cleveland Cavaliers and New Jersey Nets, has a career record of 638-437. He went 74-58 in two seasons with the Magic.
