Mormons Plan 2Nd Ore. Temple

MEDFORD, Ore. - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints plans to build its second temple in Oregon in the Rogue Valley.

Construction on the 10,700-square-foot white-marble temple will begin in the next year after a site is chosen in Medford or Central Point, said Edward Hanson, president of the Central Point Stake.

Southern Oregon was chosen for the large number of church members and its location between existing temples in Oakland, Calif., and Lake Oswego, Hanson said.

There are 3,000 members in the Medford Stake and 3,000 in the Central Point Stake, Hanson said.
