BELLEVUE - It didn't take long for the Bellevue Wolverines to show their No. 10 state ranking isn't a fluke.

The Wolverines outscored Newport 15-6 in the opening quarter and 32-12 at halftime on their way to a 61-36 victory last night a KingCo Conference 3A girls basketball opener.

Gunderson scored five of her 11, and Jessica Brashen and Jessica Farney scored four each in the opening quarter for Bellevue (1-0, 5-0).

Brashen finished with 11 points.

Katherine Bishop led the Wolverines with seven rebounds and Gunderson added six.

Bellevue hit 23 of 48 field-goal attempts (48 percent) while holding Newport (0-1, 0-3) to 15 of 43 (.349).

Mercer Island 59, at Cedarcrest 36 - Kristin Connolly and Lexie Richards each scored 14 as the hot-shooting Islanders (1-0, 4-1) won their KingCo 3A opener. Melissa Rusch had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Red Wolves (0-1, 3-3). Mercer Island, which led 16-5 after the first quarter, hit 53 percent from the field while holding Cedarcrest to 29 percent.

At Issaquah 66, Skyline 62 - Nicole Dascenzo had 20 points, nine rebounds and five steals for the night and Marissa Young made 7 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter as the Indians (1-0, 1-2) overcame 39 points from the Spartans' Taylor Benson.

Lindsay Bates hit four three-pointers, including one to tie the game at 56-all as Issaquah Coach Kathy Gibson earned her 100th win. Skyline (0-1, 1-3) led until the final two minutes.

At Mount SI 52, Sammamish 36 - Sophomore Moria Hover scored nine, and Lynnsay Ratcliffe and Jessie Raisio each scored eight as the balanced Wildcats (1-0, 3-1) used turnovers and a big third quarter to win a KingCo 3A opener. Mount Si led 22-17, but put the game out of reach by outscoring the Totems (0-1, 2-3) 17-6 in the third period.

Treesa Elliott scored seven to lead Sammamish, which turned the ball over 37 times.

At Liberty 51, Interlake 38 - The Patriots (1-0, 3-1) outscorecd Saints (0-1, 2-3) 15-2 in the third period on their way to a KingCo 3A-opening victory. Hannah Owings scored nine of her 13 points and Trina Book eight of her 13 in the first half. Book also had eight rebounds, while Owings had six rebounds and five assists.

Nichole Sauvageau scored six of her eight for Liberty in the second half. Suzanne Santos led all scorers with 20 for Interlake.
