Man Jumps Off Tacoma Bridge

TACOMA - A man jumped off the Tacoma Narrows Bridge yesterday and is presumed drowned, a Pierce County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.

A fisherman reported he saw the man fall from midspan on the west side.

Pierce County Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Coast Guard searched for the man unsuccessfully for three hours. The search was called off after 4 p.m.

The man was described as white, about six feet tall, and 160

pounds.
