Football / Kingco 3A -- Mount Si Finishes Strong -- Binger, Riley Spark Wildcats Past Totes

BELLEVUE - Aaron Binger rushed for 183 yards and three touchdowns and Chris Riley passed for 234 yards as Mount Si survived a scare and beat Sammamish 29-26 in a KingCo 3A Conference football game last night.

The Wildcats (2-0) overcame a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit. They scored on touchdown runs of 8 and 10 yards by Binger, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound senior, in the final period. Binger also had a 26-yard run for a score in the third quarter.

Mount Si outgained Sammamish 165 yards to 39 in the final quarter.

Sammamish (1-1) took a 26-14 lead into halftime as Kamal Goomansingh scored three touchdowns, including runs of 5 and 19 yards. Geoffrey Schock also scored on a 2-yard run to help the Totems to their early lead.

Goomansingh, who also scored on a 4-yard pass from Schock, rushed for 69 yards for Sammamish. Chris Raftery led the Totem offense with 74 rushing yards.

At Mercer Island 35, Newport 33 - Sophomore quarterback Justin McCullum used some dazzling footwork to sashay 13 yards past flailing defenders and dance into the end zone with just 37 seconds remaining to give Mercer Island a thrilling KingCo victory over visiting Newport.

The Islanders (2-0), who trailed 21-7 in the second quarter, fell behind again in the fourth when Newport quarterback Benny Parino scored his third touchdown on a 34-yard scoring dash with just 4:15 left.

The Knights, however, missed their last two extra-point attempts, first a kick and then a run. Those failures proved costly.

Bellevue 43, at Skyline 39 - Owen Biddle ran for 224 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 carries as the Wolverines (2-0) survived a bid by the Spartans (0-2) for their first KingCo victory. Biddle scored on runs of 59, 43, 58 and 23 yards, helping Bellevue pile up 436 rushing yards.

Mitch Browne completed 23 of 37 passes for 242 yards for Skyline. His favorite target was John Estey, who had eight catches for 51 yards. Josh Wells rushed 26 times for 188 yards and four TDs for Skyline.

Liberty 33, at Interlake 16 - The visiting Patriots (1-1) rebounded from their tough lost to Mount Si last week by jumping on the Saints (0-2) early.

Issaquah 27, at Cedarcrest 7 - The Indians (1-1) won their first game behind Travis Steiner's three touchdowns. Issaquah scored the final 24 points of the game after Cedarcrest's Casey Peterson caught a 49-yard touchdown pass from Brian Henry to give the Red Wolves (0-2) a 7-3 lead in the third quarter.
