Bakay Does Salem's Voice On `Sabrina'
Q: Who does the voice of Salem the cat on "Sabrina the Teenage Witch"?
A: That's Nick Bakay, a 1983 graduate of the professional acting program at Southern Methodist University. Nick's also an executive story editor and writer for "Sabrina." Along with voicing Salem and the cartoon "The Angry Beavers," he works for ESPN and ESPN2 doing commentary. Melissa Joan Hart and the "Sabrina" crew have been in Italy this summer filming a new TV movie.
Q: I love the TV show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." I was wondering if you could give me more information on Seth Green, who plays Oz.
A: Seth Green, 19, is having a very good year. He's been upgraded to a series regular on the WB hit "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"; he's in the popular summer teen movie "Can't Hardly Wait"; and he just made Entertainment Weekly's "1998 It List," the magazine's annual pick of the hottest stars. Seth began his career in TV commercials at a very young age. At 10, he looked perfect in Woody Allen's "Radio Days" as the director/star's younger self. Before landing on "Buffy," Seth guest-starred on "The X-Files," "Cybill," "The Drew Carey Show," "Mad About You" and played Scott Evil in the big-screen comedy "Austin Powers."
Q: On "La Femme Nikita" there was a song played both on last season's finale and this season's premiere. It goes, "Love needs its martyrs, needs its sacrifices . . ." I wish to know who sang it and where I can get the album.
A: The song is "The Love Thieves" by Depeche Mode, and it is included on the just-released "La Femme Nikita" CD. The soundtrack album also features the "Nikita" title theme by "The X-Files" composer Mark Snow and other numbers from on the popular cable series.
Q: I've noticed Nicholas Lea, formerly of "The Commish," on "The X-Files." Can you give me more information on this actor?
A: Canadian-born Lea has the recurring role of Alex Krycek on "The X-Files." Before that, you knew him as Officer Ricky Caruso on "The Commish." In addition to his acting, Lea is an accomplished musician who spent five years as lead singer for the rock band Beau Monde. Currently, he's playing Vic Mansfield in John Woo's "Once a Thief" series on Showtime.
Q: The season finale of "The Pretender" left some questions about why Jarod's father killed Miss Parker's mother. Are we to assume that the gang at Centre, including Jarod, perished in the explosion at the end, and that this question will never be answered?
A: The cliffhanger season finale apparently worked. You'll have to tune in to the show's new season this fall to (hopefully) find the answers.
Q: I just saw the movie "Six Days, Seven Nights" with Anne Heche. Was she on "Another World"? What years was she on the soap?
A: Like so many other actors, Heche got her start on soaps. She was on "AW" from 1987-91. Send your questions about TV to: The Dallas Morning News, TV Magazine, P.O. Box 655237, Dallas, TX 75265. Sorry, no personal replies.
