Prep Football -- Nine Wesco Players Set To Play In All-Star Game
Nine Western Conference football players, including two each from Cascade and Everett high schools, have been selected to play in this summer's East-West Summer Classic All-Star game.
The game, which will be staged outside of Everett or Spokane for the first time (it began in 1946), is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., June 26 at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick. Players report to camp June 21.
All nine WesCo players will compete for the West's 34-member team. Of the West's 11 running backs, four will be from WesCo, including Marysville-Pilchuck's Andy Vodegel (RB/DB), who led WesCo 4A with 20 touchdowns and 1,565 yards on 230 carries, and Edmonds-Woodway's Donny Ball (RB/LB), who led WesCo 3A with a school-record 1,501 yards on 182 carries. Ball, who will play at Eastern Washington next fall, also holds the big-school state record for most yards (376) in a game.
Everett's Corey Gunnerson (RB/LB), who ranked third in WesCo 3A last fall with 1,345 yards, and Cascade's Trent Hollimon (RB/DB), who will play at Montana State, also are expected to play for the West.
Tight ends Adam Snel (TE/DE) of Cascade, B.J. Breon (TE/DE) of Arlington and Sehome's Justin Pendry (TE/DE), who has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy, also were picked, as well as linemen Nick Dire (OL/DL) of Everett and Shorecrest's Chris Boroughs (OL/DL), who will play for San Diego.
Dire, Gunnerson and Snel will be teammates next fall at Western Washington.
The game will include four of the top quarterbacks in the state, including Puyallup's Luke Huard (bound for North Carolina), Jason Johnson of Rogers-Puyallup (Arizona), Walla Walla's Jared Jones (Florida State) and Prosser's Tyler Thomas (Oregon State).
