Former Pierce County Auditor Out Of Prison
TACOMA - After nearly four years in prison for soliciting bribes, former Pierce County Auditor Dick Greco is home.
Greco, 72, was a minor-league baseball player before he went to work for the auditor's office, becoming auditor in 1969. He held the office 17 years before resigning in 1986.
Three months later, he was indicted. He was found guilty of bribery and of official misconduct for taking bribes from vehicle-licensing agents and others.
Greco argued that the packets of money he'd received were Christmas gifts and unrecorded campaign contributions.
He unsuccessfully fought the conviction and sentence, and he reported to jail in 1994. He was released three weeks ago.
