Male Stars, Wives Join Models In Si
The Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue has an addition this year: men.
Aside from its usual trove of bare-skinned models, the magazine includes seven "hot couples" from pro sports, including Wayne Gretzky and Janet Jones.
"I knew Wayne was great, but the first couple of times I went to Canada with him, I felt like I was walking around with Michael Jackson," said Jones, who appears in a swimsuit accessorized with hockey gear.
In addition to the New York Ranger center and his actress wife, the other couples appearing in the magazine are Jennifer and Denny Neagle (baseball's Atlanta Braves), Cindy and Herschel Walker (NFL's Dallas Cowboys), Diane and Daryl Johnston (Cowboys), Marita and Reggie Miller (NBA's Indiana Pacers); Tina and Dan Majerle (NBA's Miami Heat), and Amy and Phil Mickelson (PGA Tour).
All the wives are in swimsuits; their husbands are either clothed or bare-chested.
Heidi Klum of Germany is the cover model. The issue hits newsstands tomorrow.
BAD-HAIR DAZE?
Mr. Blackwell's Worst Dressed List, which appears in the March issue of Sport Magazine, includes Chicago Bull forward Dennis Rodman and boxing promoter Don King.
Joining the pair on that list are tennis star Pete Sampras and hockey player Sergei Federov.
Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, teammates of Rodman, are on Blackwell's Best Dressed List along with heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, golfer Tiger Woods, NFL players Ray Buchanan, Keenan McCardell and Kevin Hardy, and, of course, Miami Heat Coach Pat Riley, who is always on the list.
A PERFECT 10
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - It's official: Josey LaRocco became the youngest person to bowl a 300 game when he did so last Saturday at Louisville's AMF Derby Lanes.
At the age of 10 years, 6 months and 27 days, Josey is about 40 days younger than the nation's previous record-holder.
American Bowling Congress officials verified yesterday that he's the youngest.
IS HIS FIRST NAME GRAND?
Spencer Dunkley, a 6-foot-11 former Delaware basketball player now playing in France, used to bemoan the attention his name drew.
But according to Sports Illustrated, now that he and his girlfriend are expecting their second child, a boy, Dunkley says the baby's middle name will be Slam.
HIGH-TECH STUFF
What's new in baseball? It's the "radar ball." The ball has a timer that starts with the snap of the pitch and stops when the ball hits the catcher's mitt.
A microchip inside converts the time into mph, which shows on a liquid crystal display on the ball.
