Boys Basketball -- Seagulls Hold Off Vikings, Stay In First

EVERETT - Tim Bjella scored 21 points, including five three-pointers, for the Seagulls, who held off Lake Stevens in the final seconds and won the WesCo 3A North Division game 57-54 last night.

Everett led by five points with a minute to play, but Lake Stevens cut the lead to one before missing a shot with six seconds left. Everett converted two free throws after being fouled by the Vikings.

The Seagulls (7-1, 15-3) remained in first place in the division. Adin Terrill had 12 points and Sam Nunez 11 for Everett.

T.J. Williams scored a game-high 24 points for Lake Stevens (3-5, 8-10), which jumped out to a 20-12 first-quarter lead but led by just one at halftime, 33-32. Hal Bisnett had 10 points for the Vikings.

At Edmonds-Woodway 65, Lynnwood 33 - Mark Arington scored 21 points for the Warriors, who led 38-11 at halftime of the game pitting the South Division's first- and last-place teams. Lynnwood (0-11, 0-19) had 18 turnovers, 13 of which were steals by Edmonds-Woodway (8-2, 11-8). Marc Keeney added 14 points for the Warriors. Arington had 13 points in the Warriors' 24-point second quarter.

Shorewood 62, at Shorecrest 52 - Jay Crowell scored 17 points for Shorewood, which outscored Shorecrest 23-16 in the middle quarters of the South Division game. Crowell had 10 points in the first half as the Thunderbirds (3-7, 6-12) took a 29-25 lead.

Michael Ding had 13 points and Fesum Kebede 12 for Shorewood.

B.J. Lasconia led Shorecrest (3-7, 4-14) with 15 points. Yousef Arefi-Afshar had 13 and Paul Tenney 12.

South Whidbey 60, at Monroe 59, OT - The Falcons won the North Division contest on a free throw with 14 seconds left.

Jason Moore had 15 rebounds and scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half for Monroe (3-5, 5-13). Dave Klinzing added 16 points and Anthony Curcio 12 for the Bearcats. Blenoan Coughlin scored 17 and Steve Hatfield had 14 for South Whidbey (1-7, 6-12), which finished last in the North.

At Foster 72, Seattle Christian 59 - Brandon Lyons had 26 points, including four three-pointers, and Keith Wheeler added 21 points for the second-ranked Bulldogs (14-3) in the nonleague victory.

Foster led 41-25 at halftime. Matt Alvin and Kyle Jensen each had 11 points for the Warriors (12-6).

La Conner 61, at Shoreline Christian 34 - Andy Otis scored 16 points and Brandon Odell had 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists for LaConner (11-1, 17-2), which blew the game open with a 15-4 third quarter and slammed the door with a 21-9 fourth. Todd Chamberlain scored 15 points and had four assists for Shoreline (1-11, 4-15).
