Doctor Wins Early Prison Release

ANCHORAGE - A former gynecologist convicted of raping five patients was released from prison after serving six years and seven months.

Kenneth Ake walked out of the Hiland Mountain Correctional Center yesterday in Eagle River. He lost his medical license, and on Friday Pennsylvania authorities turned down his request to move there to be near his parents. Ake was sentenced in 1991 to 20 years in prison with 10 years suspended. His early release reflects time off for good behavior. He will be on parole until 2001.

Ake's case briefly received national attention a year ago when his son, Adam Ake, asked Gov. Tony Knowles to release his father for several days to attend Adam Ake's graduation from the U.S. Military Academy. The younger Ake was first in his West Point class.
