Nightclub Closes In Deal With Port

SEATTLE - Sharky's, a troubled nightclub on Ballard's Shilshole Bay, officially closed its doors yesterday.

The closure, planned since late November, was part of a negotiated settlement with the Port of Seattle, which owns the building and the property. The Port agreed to pay Sharky's owners, Walter and Gula Yakhnich, $419,000 to move out and give up their lease.

For three years the city and Port police have been documenting problems in the club's parking lot, from drugs to assaults.

Walter Yakhnich said he is looking for a new site for his dance club, but has made no decisions.
