Pasco Girl Dies From Gunshot

PASCO - A 13-year-old Pasco girl found alongside a Franklin County road with a gunshot wound to the head has died.

Anna Pelayo was found by sheriff's deputies early yesterday on Taylor Flats Road, about a mile north of Interstate 182. She was taken to a Richland hospital, where she died.

Police said they have no suspects or a motive in the shooting. Investigators suspect she was driven to the spot where she was found rather than shot there.

The girl's mother said her daughter started associating with gangs and running away from home after they moved to Pasco from Richland last fall.

Police said Pelayo had been listed as a runaway before Christmas, but she had returned home for the holidays.
