Boys Basketball -- Inglemoor Grabs Final Momentum In Tourney Win
BELLEVUE - Momentum went in favor of both Inglemoor and Arlington until Inglemoor grabbed it and didn't let go until the Vikings had won 74-68 in the first-round game of the Bellevue Hoopaholics Tournament last night at Bellevue Community College.
Down 49-48 to start the final quarter, Inglemoor went on a 9-0 spurt to take the lead and hit their free throws in the waning minutes to finally put away the Eagles of the Western 3A Conference.
Curtis Corrales and Kevin Bynum each had 20 points to lead the KingCo 4A Vikings, and Matt Uffens added 16 - including eight during a crucial second-quarter stretch. B.J. Breon had 16 for the Eagles, and Alex Carbajal, James Drinkwater and Greg Garka each contributed 13.
The Vikings will face Eastide Catholic in tomorrow's quarterfinal round at 5:15 at BCC. Arlington will play Kentlake at 3 p.m. at Bothell High.
Inglemoor Coach Greg Lowell was pleased with the way his team played, slowly building momentum after Arlington held a 24-16 lead after the first quarter.
"We had two miraculous threes at the end of that quarter and that gave us the momentum," Lowell said. "Arlington could've taken the momentum after that, but when we got the lead at halftime, that was important."
Arlington was up 34-25 with 4:10 to go in the first half after a pair of Carbajal three-pointers. But the Vikings went on a 12-0 run to close out the half, with Uffens scoring eight of the points, to give Inglemoor the lead at intermission, 37-34.
Arlington regained the lead midway through the third, going up 49-45 late, before the Vikings closed to 49-48 to end the period.
In the fourth quarter, Inglemoor finally took the lead for good with a 9-0 run, capped by a Bynum three-pointer. Though Uffens and Viking forward James Brennan fouled out in the quarter, Inglemoor went to the free-throw line and hit 11 of 15 shots to seal the game.
Inglemoor converted 14 of 21 foul shots, all in the second half.
