Prep Football / Prime Time -- A Look At This Week's Top Football Games

Tonight's game

Sehome (4-1, 6-2) at No. 9 Cascade (5-0, 7-1) at Everett Memorial, 7 p.m.

League - Class 4A Western Conference.

Sehome facts - The Mariners have several capable runners, but senior QB Josh Turrell can tear apart opponents' defenses as well. Turrell has completed 55 of 97 passes for 872 yards. The top receiver, Trevor Walker, has 25 receptions for 379 yards. Senior FB C.J. Hayes ranks third among WesCo 4A ball carriers with 575 yards (11 TDs) on 89 carries.

Cascade facts - Senior RB Adam Eberlein leads the league in yards gained, rushing 80 times for 746 yards and 11 TDs, but two other Bruins have gained more than 400 yards. Seniors Trent Hollimon (78 carries, 472 yards, seven TDs) and Cory Acklus (45 carries, 418 yards, 6 TDs) are capable of running up the middle for tough, short gains, or breaking down the sidelines.

Notable - This game will decide the league title and top seed in Tuesday's state preliminary playoffs with Greater St. Helen's League. The WesCo 4A champion will host GSHL No. 3; GSHL champion (Kelso or Columbia River) will host WesCo 4A No. 3 (Kamiak or Snohomish); GSHL No. 2 will host WesCo 4A runner-up. Each winner earns Class 4A state-playoff berth. . . . Both teams use a Wing-T running formation. . . . Since losing its season-opener, Cascade has won its past seven games. Sehome is on a five-game winning streak.

Friday's games

No. 10 Inglemoor (8-0) vs. Woodinville (6-2) at Pop Keeney Stadium (Bothell), 7:30 p.m.

League - KingCo 4A.

Last week - Inglemoor clinched the league title with a 42-13 victory over Bothell. Woodinville kept its playoff hopes alive with a 41-28 victory over Roosevelt.

Inglemoor facts - The return of quarterback Tyson Thompson (781 yards passing, 6 TDs), who missed the past two games with a separated shoulder, should help an already explosive offense that averages 36.5 points. Fullback Justin Magruder (17 touchdowns) is the league's second-leading scorer and leads a powerful running offense that is second in the league (more than 250 yards per game). Tyson Slick also has 12 TDs for the Vikings, whose defense has given up just 14.1 points per game. As we've said before, the league champs don't have many weaknesses.

Woodinville facts - The Falcons have won this year on defense. They lead the league in scoring defense (13.9 ppg) and rushing defense (86.8 ypg), stats that will be severely tested by hard-running, high-scoring Inglemoor. Keyed by Brad Kertson (444 yards rushing, 372 yards passing, 13 TDs), who replaced Kris Billmaier at quarterback against Redmond, the Falcons also are improving offensively. The young line, which returned only one starter from last year, has helped Jeremy Tager (685 yards) and Aaron Hineline (452) pile up yards in recent weeks. They need to block well against the bigger Vikings if the Falcons are going to have a chance.

Notable - Inglemoor has clinched KingCo 4A's top seed to state playoffs. If Woodinville wins and Redmond beats Eastlake, Woodinville would qualify for three-way mini-playoff with Eastlake and Redmond.

Eastlake (7-1) at Redmond (6-2), 7:30 p.m.

League - KingCo 4A.

Last week - Eastlake beat Garfield 31-22; Redmond beat Juanita 14-7.

Eastlake facts - The Wolves are KingCo 4A's highest scoring team at 39.1 points per game behind an active defense (plus-16 in turnover margin), great special teams (three returns for scores) and one of the league's most-balanced offenses. Nick Omatsu is fourth in the league in total offense (434 rushing yards, 102 receiving, 123 on punt returns, 535 on kickoff returns). Tyler Benson is seventh in rushing (706 yards, 15 TDs), Jake Kinsley is sixth in receiving (407 yards, 7 TDs) and Matt Berry is fourth in passing (1,192 yards, 14 TDs, 5 INTs). The key will be whether the league's fourth-ranked defense (276 ypg), led by linebacker Jim Weber (62 tackles), can prevent Redmond from getting big plays.

Redmond facts - Redmond is third in the league in scoring (31.4 ppg) with a balanced, big-play offense that averages 370 yards per game. Kevin Harasimowicz has 999 yards and eight touchdowns rushing while Aaron Brown, who returned from a rotator cuff injury last week, has 526 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. The most dangerous Mustang is Tom Heier (301 yards rushing, 436 yards receiving, eight TDs). Redmond has been very opportunistic this year (plus-13 in turnover margin), but gave up 294 yards rushing to Inglemoor two weeks ago. The Mustangs have to do better than that against Eastlake if they want to win.

Notable - Neither team has ever played in the playoffs. If Eastlake wins, the Wolves are in. If Redmond wins and Inglemoor beats Woodinville, the Mustangs are in.

Rainier Beach (5-2, 5-3) vs. Eastside Catholic (6-1, 7-1) at Juanita High School, 7:30 p.m.

League - Metro 3A.

Last week - Eastside Catholic beat West Seattle 45-14; Rainier Beach beat Lakeside 32-7.

Rainier Beach facts - Beach has been going with new a quarterback in recent weeks, Jerode Ramsey, who became eligible five weeks into the season. Martez Johnson started the season at QB but has been hampered by an ankle injury since the Week 2 game against Seattle Prep and now is at wide receiver. . . . The Vikings have powerful running backs in Anthony Bogan and Tommyearl Leverett. . . . Beach has good team speed and is one of the hardest hitting teams in Metro.

Eastside Catholic facts - The Crusaders have one of the league's top quarterbacks in senior Lane Martin and have a pair of breakaway threats in seniors Evan Hecker and Mark Brandeberry. . . . the Crusaders have the most balanced attack in the league. "If you stop their run, they come at you with the pass," Beach Coach Mark Haley said. . . . Coach Chuck Tarbox didn't coach last week because of surgery to remove a herniated disk in his neck.

Notable - Beach can force a three-team playoff Tuesday for the Metro League's No. 2 berth in state playoffs with a victory and if Seattle Prep beats Ballard. . . . The Vikings beat Eastside Catholic 22-9 last year en route to a season that ended in the state semifinals.

No. 7 Mariner (6-0, 7-1) vs. Arlington (5-0, 7-1) at Everett Memorial, 8 p.m.

League - Class 3A Western Conference.

Mariner facts - The Marauders have size and speed in a talented backfield. Sophomore HB Amon Gordon (6-4, 240) has run for 451 yards on 55 carries (8.2 average). Junior HB Martavius Burkhalter (5-9, 185) has gained 502 yards on 85 carries. Starting for the first time at QB this season, senior Nick Wold has been very impressive, completing 75 of 115 passes for 1,168 yards and 16 touchdowns. Top WRs are Teyo Johnson (26 catches, 315 yards, three TDs) and Coire King (20 catches, 363 yards, four TDs).

Arlington facts - Senior QB Scott Faries ranks ninth in the state and leads WesCo 3A QBs with a school-record 1,730 yards, completing 90 of 169 attempts for 19 TDs with four interceptions. Alex Carbajal leads Eagle and WesCo 3A WRs with 803 yards on 32 receptions; B.J. Breon, Erik Marty and Greg Garka average also rank among league's top 10 receivers. Arlington also is capable of a solid running game; Jason Boitano has gained 386 yards on 57 carries and Josh Fletcher has gained 357 yards on 76 carries.

Notable - As division champions, both teams already have secured a spot in the Class 3A state playoffs, but Friday's winner earns the league title and top seed. . . . Mariner has never won a league championship; Arlington last won in 1982, when the Eagles won the Class AA state title.
