Outlook and misc.: Kelly Moss, junior D, and Allison Alkire, sophomore D, got valuable varsity playing time last year and are starting. . . . Lions began season with shutout victories over solid nonleague opponents Mount Rainier and Shorecrest and recently shut out Hale and Holy Names by 6-0 scores. . . . Unbeaten streak is 32. . . . Skinner scored winning goal in state-title game against Olympia in 1995 and Weed scored game-winner against Gig Harbor last year. . . . Key graduates were Theresa Wagner (now a Washington Husky), who set state AA record with 120 career goals, and Tammy Westinghouse (national-team member now at Virginia).

Seattle Prep Panthers

Coach: Andrew Hendricks (eighth year).

Last year: 12-4-3.

Outlook and misc.: Brooks scored all the goals in 4-0 season-opening win over Interlake. . . . Hendricks, dean of Metro coaches, has 93-28-14 record and should get his 100th win before leaves turn color.

Division II

Ballard Beavers

Coach: Gary Hunter (first year).

Last year: 4-7-1.

Outlook and misc.: Hunter coached Roosevelt boys team into state playoffs last spring. He replaces Sarah Smith, who now coaches Nathan Hale, where she teaches. . . . Sophomore G Emma Edwards has potential but lacks experience. Hunter is packing his defense with experienced players to help her. . . . Hunter is counting on White to score a lot of goals. . . . Thompson was impressive in team's first two games.

Nathan Hale Raiders

Coach: Sarah Smith (first year).

Last year: 4-5.

Outlook and misc.: Young team might show a lot of improvement. . . . Stan did good job last spring coaching Sealth boys to 3-5-7 record that included ties against Seattle Prep, Blanchet, Lakeside and Eastside Catholic.

West Seattle Indians

Coach: Paul Weisz (first year).

Last year: 6-7-1.

Outlook and misc.: Weisz was assistant at West Seattle two years and was graduate of the school.
