NFL -- Westbrook Suspended, Fined $10,000
Washington wide receiver Michael Westbrook has been suspended for tonight's exhibition game at Miami and fined $10,000 for attacking teammate Stephen Davis during Tuesday's practice.
The incident also has cost Westbrook whatever chance he had of being in the starting lineup when the team opens the regular season against Carolina on Aug. 31, according to team sources.
Team President John Kent Cooke said Westbrook's outburst "is behavior that will not be tolerated by this franchise." Cooke said he still wanted Westbrook on the team. "But he's going to have to have to make amends for that kind of behavior."
Coach Norv Turner said he would meet with Westbrook Saturday morning. Westbrook's representatives said the wide receiver would make a formal apology to the team Saturday.
Teammates said they were unaware of a problem between Westbrook and Davis, but Westbrook's agent, Stephen Zucker, said otherwise.
"There has been words between the two of them for the last two seasons," Zucker said.
