Saturday is the 20th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley. Here are highlights of special programming that will be offered this week:
Today
9:20 a.m. (Showtime): "This Is Elvis." The 1981 documentary includes many songs. (102 min.)
9 p.m. (Showtime): "Elvis Meets Nixon." New made-for-cable movie is based on the true story of Elvis' visit with President Nixon at the White House on Dec. 21, 1970. Rick Peters portrays Elvis and Bob Gunton is cast as Nixon. Repeats 8 p.m. Saturday. (95 min.)
Tomorrow
7 and 10 p.m. (VH1): "Elvis From the Waist Up." New documentary looks at Elvis' rise to fame and includes early TV appearances on shows hosted by the Dorsey Brothers, Milton Berle, Steve Allen and Ed Sullivan, plus home movies and other archival material. (60 min.)
Tuesday
11 p.m. (TNN): "Long Live the King: Country Salutes Elvis." Country artists, including Lorrie Morgan and Mindy McCready, recall Elvis and perform some of his most popular songs in a program that premiered on Aug. 6. (60 min.)
Friday
7 p.m. (VH1): " '68 Comeback Special." This famous program re-established Elvis' reputation after a period of relative seclusion. (60 min.)
9 p.m. (VHI): "Aloha From Hawaii." Elvis in 1973. (2 hrs.)
9 p.m. (TNT): "Elvis Remembered!" A tribute that will extend through Saturday night starts with Elvis in the 1965 movie "Girl Happy." See TV grids for other films and documentaries.
