Guilty Plea In Beating Death
PRINCE RUPERT, B.C. - One of five young men charged in the 1995 beating death of a Point Roberts fisherman known as the "Gentle Giant" has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and robbery.
Jason Glover, 18, will be sentenced Aug. 27 in the slaying of Trygve Magnusson, 34. Another of the accused, Christopher Brownlee, 18, faces charges of second-degree murder and robbery.
Brownlee and Glover were both 16 years old at the time of the attack but were tried in adult court.
Three others, one just 14 at the time, were convicted last year of manslaughter and robbery under the Young Offenders Act.
Magnusson was beaten and robbed along the Prince Rupert waterfront in July 1995 as he was walking to his boat from a bar. Magnusson, 6 feet 7 inches and 300 pounds, died in a hospital.
